classes: golden acrylics

August 15th, 2010 by jim winstead

These four-hour workshops are $30 each and enrollment is limited, so contact us at the store to reserve your spot before they fill up.

Digital Mixed Media (Intermediate-Advanced)

Saturday, August 28, 1-5pm

Painters and non-painters will take creative advantage of new grounds that allow artists to combine print and paint in luminous layers. This class will open up a world of acrylic skins—actual layers of acrylic paint that can be printed on directly by an inkjet printer. Students will work into these images to transform them, seal them and then create unique mixed media paintings. This workshop is perfect for photographers and digital artists who are interested in opening up possibilities for the print on unique surfaces. Mixed-media artists will find new ideas to expand their current work. Come with a sense of adventure, and be open to new ideas!

Creating Textures (All levels)

Sunday, September 19, 1-5pm

Discover the exciting process of making textures from acrylic paints. This hands-on workshop will introduce students to a wide range of acrylic products and tools that can be manipulated to add a fun new dimension to your paintings. Using color, gels and pastes, we will scrape, sgraffito and stamp onto a series of painting supports. Learn how the absorbency of some pastes can be a great alternative for watermedia applications and explore various gels viscosities to see which ones will hold the marks you desire to make. Students will go home with the sample boards they made in class so they can be used as a reference point to build more ideas on!

The acrylic materials for use during the workshop are provided by Golden, and painting tools are provided by the instructor.

new product: williamsburg oils

August 14th, 2010 by jim winstead

We’re very happy to say that we’ve expanded our selection of oils again, and added Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors.

These high-quality oil colors are handmade, as you might have guessed from the name, in the United States (New York, more exactly). After the untimely death of its founder, the line was recently taken over by Golden Artist Colors, who you may know for their acrylic paints and mediums. They are dedicated to preserving the integrity and quality of Williamsburg oils.

You have to come check out the gorgeous colors available from Williamsburg — they just blow us away. The Native Italian Earth oil colors are unlike anything else we have in the store.

30% off for a limited time. These are only currently available in-store.
