Exploring Iridescent and Interference Colors

Saturday, July 16th, 2011 at 1:00pm

The class fee for this four-hour workshop is $35 and enrollment is limited, so contact us at the store to reserve your spot before they fill up. This workshop is suitable for all levels of artists.

Discover the exciting realm of Iridescent and Interference Colors in this hands-on workshop! This class will focus on how to incorporate the bold metallic look of the iridescents and the opalescent shimmer of the interference colors in your painting projects. See how you can manipulate the colors by themselves and how to change their behavior by mixing them with other pigments and acrylic gels. We will be working with varying viscosities of paints and gels to create a range of flat and sculpted surfaces, and students will also learn some tricks for how to create faux weathered metal looks!

All acrylic materials will be provided by Golden Artist Colors and workshop-use brushes, tools and supports will be provided by the instructor. Please feel free to bring additional brushes, painting tools and supplies to take notes if you desire.

Instructor: Amy Shawley is an artist passionate about creating a visual language through painting, illustration, photography and sculpture. Inspired by color, intelligent song lyrics, memory, life’s little surprises and nature’s cycles of growth and decay, she presents her viewers with images of women interacting with environments that represent emotional stories of loss, heartbreak, love, family and history.
