Blending Medium R&F Handmade Paints Special Order Only
Blending medium is ideal for glazing colors, and can be worked directly into a color to increase the color's transparency or to blend colors together on the surface. Available with drier and without. Medium with drier contain a small amount of Cobalt Drier added to speed up the drying time. The use of a Cobalt Drier can affect color, so best use is to work colors on top of it after it has been laid down on the surface.

Damar Resin Crystals R&F Handmade Paints Special Order Only
Damar resin, a component of encaustic paint, is a natural tree resin that allows encaustic paints to be buffed to a higher, more translucent surface and helps prevent blooming in the wax. Beeswax can be used as the prime ingredient, along with damar resin, for making encaustic medium. It can also be used straight as an initial primer coating for panels and paper to be used with encaustics.

Impasto & Modeling Wax R&F Handmade Paints Warehouse Only
This impasto and modeling wax is a blend of microcrystalline (petroleum) waxes and beeswax. Designed for sculptural purposes, the wax can be cast, carved and layered to create a textural surface. It is not intended as a surface medium but works well in combination with encaustic paints. The melting point of the impasto and modeling wax (175º F, 79º C) is higher than the melting point of encaustic paint (approximately 162º F, 72º C). The difference in temperature allows one to paint and fuse the encaustic over a shape without immediately blunting sculptural details or impasto effects.

This white beeswax has been decolorized by mechanical filtration, rather than through bleaching. Filtering the wax is gentler process that makes it less reactive to pigments than chemical bleaching. The wax comes granulated so it is easy to melt and measure.
